Sixty years ago plastic was an exotic development of modern chemistry. Today it is the most widespread human-made substance in the world. More than 250 billion pounds of raw plastic pellets are produced from petroleum feedstock every year. It is everywhere, in places you never imagined: computers and cell phones; packaging; food and drink containers; home furnishings and building materials; cars, trucks, airplanes and boats; children’s toys and beauty products.

Slum dwellers in Latin America and Africa build their shanties from plastic sheets and collect their water in plastic buckets; plastic flip-flops protect the feet of millions of peasants across Asia. Western consumers eat their take-out food with plastic cutlery from plastic foam containers while swigging water from plastic bottles.

Now no part of the planet can escape its toxic impact on human health and the environment.

hey guys,

so if you're wondering exactly how green the party that you're voting for on saturday is, check some of the reports below.

On climate change the Australian Conservation Foundation rated the Greens climate change policies at the top with a score of 94/100, ahead of the Democrats on (90/100), Labor (58/100), Family First (34/100) and the Coalition (21/100). See:

The Big Switch website compiled by Conservation Councils, Greenpeace and Get Up! meanwhile was topped by the Greens (4.8 out of 5), the Democrats (4.4) and followed by Labor (1.9) , Family First (1.2) with the Liberal and National parties on a disappointing and sceptical 0.8. See:

The Climate Institute meanwhile gives the Greens and Democrats a chart-topping 90 per cent for their policies on climate change with Labor on 60% and Liberal on 30%.

if you happened to be scrolling past blog.flickr.com on 30th may, you might have noticed that a little unknown boy called sighmon made the blog.

strange to be chosen for a piece that i was so hesitant in putting up. but then again, my grandfather was never backwards in letting his voice be heard when he was alive, so why should it be any different now he's moved on.

so, enjoy him. while we enjoy our day in the sun together.

i set this little group up about a month and a bit ago. we've been drawing every tuesday since then. last night we decided to try painting a wall of boxes.. and what do you know.. it actually kind of worked! yay for us.

it's been a good 30 years. but to be honest, i still feel a bit like a teenager going through puberty. just reaching the end of my selfish childish years. and looking forward to exploring the creative realms of my dreams that await, just one step ahead.

so i started to blogger blog way back in yesteryear. it was going well. i was getting out all of my sick little early 20's frustrations.. and then i stopped.

i think it was something to do with getting better, and finding that the outdoors were much better than the cold dark corner of my room, lit only by the light of my laptop.

well, i'm almost old now.. and my addiction to blogging is back. this time for a combination of good and bad. so why don't you pop on over to my blog on vox: sighmon.vox.com and catch up on all the buzz.

i'm sorry for the random posts back then, but i had shingles. so was a bit messed up, both physically and mentally. do i enjoy reading the posts now? yes. are they a true reflection of who i am? well probably. but usually i've got much more of a smile on my face, that's all. :)

so, i'm all better now. and ready for action.
so keep an eye out, i might just post again soon.

so here i am, this is me.
i'm all dosed up on perscription drugs and can't sleep. it's 2.16am.
oh right, sure, its a jaded start to what should otherwise be a nice blog. but who cares anyway. and no, this isn't a whine, a muddy marsh of self pity, or even a call for help. it's simply me, lying here in bed.. alone.. again..

so i feel a bit ripped off. i thought these drugs were supposed to be helping.. or at least put a sparkle of hallucination in my eye for my troubles? right? i mean enduring the body scans, the blood tests, the doctors who know everything - except what's "slightly strange" and wrong with me.

still, i should be greatful. work (newint.org) is great when it comes to sick leave, and hey.. they are all lovely people sending me flowers, sickeningly nice get well messages and other vomituitous blah. i'm not sure what's worse, the illness or the pity in everybody's eyes.

at least now i'm getting to the interesting stage. yep, you guessed it. the DVDs have run out, i'm still not motivated to draw or paint.. stencils are even just out of reach.. so it's time to dissect my mind. it's all in my head you know. i'm not even really sick. i'm simply a selfish dick wanting attention. so attend to me. give me more drugs with strange names for things that i don't even have. put a pretty plastic bracelet on my arm. stick a drip to me and ask me repetitive questions. "what's your name", "what day is it today", "what's your name...", "what day is it today".

i answer friday the 13th, i'm your worst nightmare.. in my head of course.

so anyway, like most blogs, i'm just a left field boy, with a sick mind, and a clogged body, throwing my voice to the corner of the room, hoping that sometime, somewhere, someone might notice it and make art from it.
